A collaboration years in the making between James Beard Award-winning restaurateur Stephen Starr and legendary LA chef Nancy Silverton culminates in the opening of the Michelin-starred Osteria Mozza in Washington, DC. Located in the historic market space on M Street NW in Georgetown, 20,000 square feet are dedicated to rustic and traditional Italian food, with a marble-toped Mozzarella Bar, two private dining areas, and a feature unique to the restaurant's first East Coast location: a colorful market showcasing specialty olive oils, spices, fresh produce, jarred and tinned Italian delicacies and more items handpicked by Silverton herself. Osteria Mozza will showcase the iconic dishes that made Silverton a global culinary star - her crisp stracchino-stuffed Focaccia di Recco, "Nancy's Favorite Trio" - delicate mounds of mozzarella di bufala draped in Cantabrian anchovies, sun-dried tomatoes, and peppers - accompanied by crisp, golden-brown fett'unta (like the best garlic bread you've ever tasted), hand-made tagliatelle pasta with oxtail ragu, and new favorites created especially for the DC location. Osteria Mozza offers an Italian-focused wine list that spotlights classic, novel, and compelling offerings from Piedmont, Tuscany, Campania, and Sicily. This historic market space dating back to 1865 has been spectacularly re-envisioned by New York-based design studio, Roman and Williams, as a modern, convivial space: gorgeous, arched windows fill the space with light, while gleaming terrazzo floors are perfectly complemented by marble tables and bar tops, dark woods, and flashes of exposed brick. The Solarium, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, turns the idea of outdoor dining on its head - by bringing it indoors.
