FoMO: 3 Icons of Italian Wine (Foradori, Montesecondo & Occhipinti)

FoMO: Guided WIne Tasting with light hors d'oeuvres presented by Carl Moberg of Louis / Dressner Selections.Italy is loaded with exciting wine regions and legendary winemakers but few achieve the level of adoration and acclaim attributed to Elisabetta Foradori, Silvio Messana (Montesecondo) and Arianna Occhipinti.Foradori makes legendary wines in Rotaliano, Alto Adige, primarily from the local Teroldego grape (the grape that Elisabetta really promoted from near extinction to worldwide fame). Foradori’s approach in the vineyard and in the cellar is meticulous and has been a model for the next level of care and attention to detail for winemakers around the globe. Montesecondo is known for exceptional Chianti Classico from 2 estate vineyards in the northern reaches of the region. Here Silvio Messana farms biodynamically and produces wines of exceptional elegance and energy that are favorites at Tannin and around the globe.Arianna Occhipinti learned wine making from her famous uncle, Giuseppe, but her reputation has expanded to rival that of anyone in her region (Vittoria, Sicily). Her wines (primarily Frapatto & Nero d’Avola) have not only matched the top level of quality in Sicily but have redefined what is possible in the region.Your guide for this memorable event will be Carl Moberg of Louis / Dressner Selections. Carl knows these wines and the people behind them well. We can’t wait for him to share his excitement! The guided wine tasting of 6 wines will be paired with light hors d’oeuvres prepared by Chef Tom & the Tannin culinary team. Chateau Musar Wine Dinner with Kat Camera of Broadbent Selections

Chateau Musar is one of the greatest wine estates on the planet. Gaston Hochar, founded the winery in 1930 when he planted vines in the Bekaa Valley. Since then, Musar has been widely recognized as Lebanon’s preeminent winery. The winery has been linked to the great Bordeaux estates. In 1941, Gaston befriended Major Ronald Barton, a Franch military officer from the Chateau Leoville-Barton family who was stationed in Lebanon at the time, greatly influencing the methods and style of the wines. In 1959, Gaston’s son, Serge Hochar, took the winemaking reigns following his education at the University of Oenology in Bordeaux. Until the mid-1970s the wines were sold primarily in Lebanon but that changed with the 15 year civil war. Serge took the wines to the London Wine Fair in 1979 where Michael Broadbent declared the 1967 vintage the “find of the year”. Broadbent started an import company, Broadbent Selections which now imports the wines to the U.K., Europe and U.S.1984, Decanter Magazine named Serge Hochar “Decanter Man of the Year” for his relentless work producing fine wine through the war. Serge’s sons, brothers and nephews now operate the estate and have furthered it’s reputation globally. If you have not tried Chateau Musar, they are some of the most individual, complex, long aging and rewarding wines on the planet (for reds, whites and roses). Our friend Kat Camera, of Broadbent Selections, will be on hand to share these special wines, stories and details with our guests on November 12. Chef Brian and our culinary team are planning a special menu that highlights the flavors of Lebanon and compliments the incredible complexity and layers of Chateau Musar wines. I'll Have What He's Having, A Book & Wine Dinner with Adib Khorram

Adib Khorram is an award winning author who is from and resides in Kansas City, Missouri (he is also a Tannin Wine Club Member). His first novel, Darius The Great is Not Okay, won the William C. Morris Debut Award, the Asian/Pacific American Award for Young Adult Literature and a Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor. His newest novel (for adults), I’ll Have What He’s Having, is set at a wine bar in Kansas City, on Walnut Street, near the Kauffman Center light rail stop. Chef Brian Aaron and the team will prepare a 5 course meal inspired by dishes from the novel (both classic wine bar fare alongside Persian dishes) and Tannin will pair each course with a wine featured in the novel (or a suitable alternative). Each attendee will also receive a copy of I’ll Have What He’s Having. Why not hang out with the writer at one of his favorite wine bars while enjoying the same food and wine that Adib Khorram describes in his newest novel?
