Yefsi means “taste.” Tasting our dishes at Yefsi is not about eating. We look at food as a cultural symbol; a form of art and pleasure. There is no “right or wrong” way to taste. Come in prepared to use each one of your senses and understand the perceptions of tasting– “yevome,” as we say in Greek– and allow yourself to rediscover how to taste food and truly immerse in the culture. When I create our ever-changing menus and cook our dishes, I am sitting at a table with my mother in our village, our horio. Every flavor and spice we use strives for you to create your own memories to take with you and experience again and again. Our traditional recipes from Western Greece use the freshest herbs, spices, and of course, lots of olive oil to bring the flavor of Greece to the Upper East Side for you to discover the true flavor and benefits of a healthy Mediterranean and Middle Eastern diet. This is what I, Chef Katerina Efthymiadou, brings to every table every single day, accompanied by hospitable and attentive service.
