Ye's Apothecary 夜莺•Lower East Side
Szechuan•$
Steal away from the bustling NYC streets to find your own private retreat within Ye’s Apothecary. Right on the border with Chinatown, our speakeasy and tapas bar creates the ultimate intimate mood with classic Asian décor and warm lighting, ideal for whisking your palate into another era, among friends or in the spirit of romance. Named for Miss Ye, whose travels throughout Asia have served as the inspiration for our new venture, you’ll discover the passion of these flavors on your palate. All sourced from Miss Ye’s favorite cities and towns around the Asian continent, an array of traditional Szechuan cuisine is crafted into tapas form with a modern twist while cocktails have been given the mixologist’s approach, infused with Chinese herbal botanical elements to create another dimension of flavor. Light snacks give you the taste of Asian street stalls with bold flavors from Szechuan peppercorns, chili peppers, and thirteen spices, popular seasonings that give our tapas those extraordinarily exotic flavors. Experience Chinese cuisine in a more intimate way with pork soup dumplings dressed with imported Chinese black vinegar. Take a taste of a classic with scallion pancakes without the road traffic whirring by. Bite into Canton shumai, Sichuan wontons with house-made chili oil, night market noodles, crispy tofu peppered in our house spice blend, chicken or beef skewers with cumin and peppercorn, yuzu-glazed shrimp, or our absolute signature offering of thirteen-spiced tempura soft shell crab.
