Welcome to hear.say brewing + theater, a craft microbrewery, improv performance theater, corporate training center, and event space with an on-site food truck. We have a 7 barrel brewing system and a wide variety of drinks with and without alcohol. See our events page for our lineup of comedy shows and classes multiple nights per week. We can also accommodate a variety of private events inside or on our large outdoor biergarten.

    Comedy Writing for Late Night & Stage (Online Class)

    Rich shares insights and writing techniques from his 20+ years in late night TV (SNL, MADtv, Key & Peele, The Tonight Show) and from having written five resident company shows for Second City in Chicago. Students will learn how to write jokes, how to write blackouts, how to brainstorm and pitch their ideas and how to outline a scene/story-structure. How to tell a story and how to come up with endings. How to properly format and write a variety of sketches. The group will also learn how to support others’ ideas a key writers’ room skill. Jay Leno, Saturday Night Live, and the critically acclaimed, Review.Rich took his first improv class from Stephen Colbert at Chicago’s Second City. Rich went on to tour with SC’s National Touring Company and later co-created five original sketch comedy revues with SC’s Etc., and Main Stage Companies.     Close Quarters (Long Form Advanced Elective)

    The Close Quarters takes place in one general location. Every member of the troupe establishes a single character they will inhabit for the duration of the set. Characters explore the location, weave in and out of each other's lives, and create a narrative unique to the worlds you build each performance.Explore the Close Quarters form in this eight-week class. Work on building strong characters, leaning into location-based play, and establishing strong through-line and connections. The Close Quarters is a versatile form that works with a wide range of troupe sizes, performance styles, and performance spaces.
